The feasibility study was approved by the Executive Yuan on January 29, 2024.
Our bureau/agency is currently handling the comprehensive planning.
The Central Region Coastal Line, operational since 1922, still features five sections that have not been dual-tracked (Tanwen to Dashan, Baishatun to Xinpu, Tongxiao to Yuanli, Rinan to Dajia, and Qingshui to Zhuifen). This lack of dual-tracking hinders the flexibility of service scheduling, mandates operational passing maneuvers during operation, consequently curtails train frequency, and thus undermining public ridership appetite.
The project entails the dual-tracking of five discontinuous single-track sections along the Coastal Line, spanning from Tanwen Station (Miaoli) to Zhuifen Station (Taichung). These sections are: Tanwen–Dashan, Baishatun–Xinpu, Tongxiao–Yuanli, Rinan–Dajia, and Qingshui–Zhuifen. The cumulative length of the sections designated for dual-tracking is approximately 35.37 kilometers.
By enhancing the operational efficiency of the Coastal Line, the project aims to improve the flexibility of train operations, increase service frequency, and stimulate public ridership appetite. Thisis expected to promote regional transportation convenience and spatial development, culminating in a more comprehensive and reliable central railway network.
