Plan Introduction

The origin of the project

Since launching in 2007, Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail (HSR) has created a convenient north–south one-day living circle along the western corridor, offering safe, fast, and high-quality transportation services. It has become a key driver shaping national spatial planning and regional development. To further extend these benefits, the Executive Yuan has incorporated the HSR Extension to Pingtung into the rail infrastructure plans under the Forward-looking Infrastructure Program.

Plan outline

  • Route:The line extends from HSR Zuoying Station, largely following the TRA corridor through Kaohsiung City (Zuoying, Gushan, Sanmin, Lingya, Fengshan, Daliao), crosses the Gaoping River in Dashu District, and terminates at a station located  in Pingtung City. The total route length is approximately 26.2 kilometers, consisting of a 17.8km underground section (Zuoying to Fengshan) and a 8.4km elevated section (Fengshan to Pingtung).
  • Stations: Kaohsiung (integrated with TRA Kaohsiung Station and Kaohsiung Metro) and Pingtung Station (planned relocation and co-location of TRA Liukuaicuo Station with HSR).
  • Land development around the HSR Pingtung Station: Pingtung Science Park of Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP)Urban plan for HSR extension to Pingtung
  • Pingtung Technology Industrial Park Expansion Plan.

Expected benefit

  • The High-Speed Rail (HSR) service coverage will be expanded to incorporate Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County into a shared HSR living circle.
  • The extension of the HSR will effectively enhance national territorial mobility and promote balanced regional development.
