The origin of the project

The Feasibility Study for this project was conducted by the Yilan County Government. On October 26, 2020 (M.R. 109), the Executive Yuan officially approved the project via official document No. 1090030966, authorizing the continuation of Comprehensive Planning procedures.

Plan outline

• Project period：March 2026 to March 2037.
• Project Scope： The section of the Taiwan Railways (TRA) Yilan Line spanning from the south end of Sicheng Station to the Dongshan Drainage Bridge, with a total length of approximately 15.85 kilometers.
• Engineering Content：Railway Elevated Works: Includes the reconstruction of four existing stations (Yilan, Erjie, Zhongli, and Luodong) into elevated structures, and the addition of one new elevated station (Yilan New Station, planned for co-location with the HSR Yilan Station to allow seamless passenger transfer). Concurrently, the operational relocation plan must be executed to transfer the TRA's mechanical, civil, electrical, and transportation functions from Yilan Station.

Expected benefit

• Safety Enhancement: To eliminate nine at-grade level crossings along the Taiwan Railways (TRA) line between Yilan and Luodong.
• Urban Development: To promote multi-purpose land utilization around the stations, create a new image and environment for the station areas, and stimulate the regional economy.
• Service Quality: To enhance the connectivity and convenience of rail transfer in the Eastern Region, providing high-quality public transportation service standards.
