Our bureau/agency is currently handling the comprehensive planning.
The origin of the project
The Tainan City Government, considering the rapid development of Yongkang and surrounding areas, applied for the “Feasibility Study for the Tainan Railway Grade Separation Project Extension to Yongkang Area”.
Plan outline
- "The Tainan City
Government submitted the 'Feasibility Study for the Tainan Railway Grade
Separation Project Extension to Yongkang Area' to the Ministry of
Transportation and Communications (MOTC) on February 9, 2022. A summary of the
project contents is as follows:"
- The Yongkang area's railway will be made underground for 6.72 kilometers, and Yongkang Station and Daqiao Station will be rebuilt as underground stations. Furthermore, another simple underground station, Kangqiao Station, will be added between the two stations.
- Three level crossings and three intersecting overpasses will be eliminated.
- The feasibility study for this project was approved by the Executive Yuan on September 16, 2025.
Expected benefit
Upon completion of the railway grade separation, it is expected to achieve the following goals by eliminating three level crossings within the project scope: integrating the roads on both sides of the railway and constructing a complete road network on both sides to enhance the accessibility of the overall road system. It will also help to balance urban development and stimulate the growth of the construction and related industries.
Furthermore, the three existing overpasses can also be considered for demolition after the completion of the grade separation, thereby improving the road service level within the project area.
